Lean Manufacturing is a philosophy used by businesses to improve quality, eliminate waste, reduce production times, and reduce costs. 5S, which is a Lean Manufacturing method that originated in Japan at the Toyota corporation, provides a structured approach for creating and maintaining a clean and orderly workplace. Organizing workplaces with 5S improves efficiency by exposing waste so it can be eliminated and prevented from recurring and making standards known so that all employees can easily follow them. The five S’s are sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain. This course will discuss how to perform each of the five S’s and their benefits.
