Course Objectives
At the completion of this course, you will have learned:
- Explain the requirements for vertical construction.
- Illustrate what needs to be considered in selecting heavy lifting equipment.
- Determine correct rigging based on job requirements.
- Describe basic safety considerations and proper hand signals.
- List the lifting production cycle steps for different types of lifting equipment.
- Identify the different types of heavy lifting equipment and their uses.
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Richard Ryan
Richard Ryan is an AIC Certified Professional Constructor and LEED accredited. He is on the CNS Board of Visitors Professor in the OU Haskell & Irene Lemon Construction Science Division. Richard holds a BS - Building Construction and a MS - Construction Management degrees. He was an owner/partner in a construction company that specialized in design/build projects for twelve years and has taught in university construction programs for over twenty-five years. Mr. Ryan has co-authored a book about managing heavy construction equipment and worked with owners and superintendents in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Superintendent Career Training mentoring program for many years. He has participated and presented at the annual Mentoring Conference hosted by the University of New Mexico.
