Whether for recreation, training, or therapy, swimming pools can have a multitude of designs. No matter how large or small, how complex or simple, the design and construction of the swimming pool will entail:

  • Civil design, grading, drainage, parking and utility extension
  • Mechanical designs for heater venting, waste water discharge, and sometimes heating and air conditioning for a natatorium
  • Safe ventilation of mechanical spaces
  • Landscape construction for planters, lighting, decking, walkways, fencing and irrigation
  • Structural designs for supporting foundations including piers
  • Geotechnical concerns for soil stabilization and high water table
  • Architectural designs for restrooms, concessions, offices and support buildings and ADA access to the site

This 1-hour online course considers how the construction of swimming pool and aquatic features involves almost all the other building trades on the architectural/engineering design team; therefore, it is essential the design team members know how to coordinate their own plans lest "holes" develop in the construction documents. A separate course, Coordination of Architects & Pool Design Professionals, has been prepared for coordination with the Architect. This course will be directed to the other design professionals, primarily engineers and landscape architects, on the design team.

Vector Solutions has a long history of providing industry-specific content for its customers. While this course and its content remain accurate and functional within our systems, the look and feel may not match our more modern offerings.
Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, you will be familiar with swimming pool engineering coordination requirements such as:

  • Coordination with the Mechanical Engineer (Water Supply, Wastewater Discharge, Deck Drainage, Pool Water Heating, Natatorium Ambient Air Quality)
  • Coordination with the Electrical Engineer (Electrical Bonding & Distributioin, Pumps & Motors, Monitoring, Alarms, & Misc. Wiring, Undewater Lighting)
  • Coordination between Civil Engineer, Landscape Architect, and Pool Consultant
  • Coordination between the Structural Engineer and the Pool Consultant
  • Coordination with the Construction Team

This course includes a multiple choice test at the end.

Since 1969, Terry has worked in public works for cities and counties. Beginning with the City of Irving, Texas and ending eight years later with the City of Tyler, Texas, Terry’s early career was spent working in the engineering departments of these two cities. Since 1977, his work designing water systems, sewer systems, parks and recreation facilities, airports, public buildings, drainage and paving has expanded to more than eighty different local governments.

Terry graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering in 1973 and received his license to practice engineering in Texas in 1976. Later he would add licenses to practice in Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Georgia. He is also licensed to practice in Nebraska.

Specializing in water conveyance and treatment, Terry’s experience has been broad based ranging from design of water and wastewater treatment plants, to performing stormwater and floodplain studies, to design of competition swimming pools and aquatic centers.

In 1977, Terry and Tom Barber formed Barber-Brannon, Engineers, a partnership which would eventually become The Brannon Corporation. Since 1985, Terry has been the chief executive officer and president of the company.

Terry’s outside interests include singing Southern gospel music in a quartet at his church. He enjoys snow skiing in Colorado and traveling with his wife. He is a deacon, choir member and teacher at Green Acres Baptist Church.
