The third fundamental canon of NSPE's Code of Ethics sates, "Engineers shall issue public statements only in an objective and truthful manner." This seems like a fairly simple requirement, but what about honest differences in code interpretation? What about legitimate disagreements between engineers on methods, or even the application of scientific principles? What does it mean to be "objective"? These important issues will be explored by examining case studies and summarizing practical applications.
