Sewage lift stations, also known as pump stations or transfer stations, present a common design opportunity for civil engineers. This two hour online course is designed to introduce the most common types of lift stations and provide rationale for their use. This course will also present typical regulatory design requirements and their practical implementation. These guidelines will be used to determine the most basic design elements, including design flow rate determination, pump configuration, system head curve determination, pump selection, and force main design.
At the completion of this course you will
· Be familiar with the most common types of lift stations and understand reasons for their use.
· Understand how a centrifugal pump works.
· Understand basic types of pump impellers.
· Be able to determine design flow rates for sewage lift stations.
· Be able to determine the number of pumps required in a lift station.
· Understand and utilize manufacturer's pump curves.
· Be able to generate a system head curve.
· Be able to size wet wells in order to meet cycle time requirements.
· Be able to determine force main diameter and other design criteria.
